At Coombe Valley Nursery we follow the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) Framework 2014, the standards for learning and care for children from birth to 5 years old. It sets outs an integrated approach and gives all professionals a set of common principles and commitments to deliver quality early education and childcare experiences to all children. and
At Coombe Valley Nursery we use 'Development Matters in the EYFS' to support children's learning and development. Children are born ready, able and eager to learn. They actively reach out to interact with other people and the world around them. Development is not an automatic process though, it depends om each unique child having opportunities to interact in positive relationships and enabling environments.
There are four themes of the EYFS that underpin all guidance
At Coombe Valley Nursery, the EYFS is delivered through a well planned play based approach to learning and development. Our nursery uses aspects from each area of development in the EYFS to help us track each child's progress and enable us to provide the right activities to support all children to achieve, progress and reach their full potential.
Coombe Valley Nursery is a place where children have friendship and fun, and where they can be involved with discovery and creativity. There are opportunities for free play, enabling children to make thier own decisions and develop their interests and independence. There are also times where structured learning through play can enable children to become familiar with problem solving activities and develop their creative and critical thinking skills. These characteristics of effective learning (COEL) are the ways in which children engage with learning and remain an effective and motivated learner. Together with the PRIME and SPECIFIC areas of Learning, the COEL support children's development in all areas of the curriculum.
The staff at Coombe Valley assess children's progress and future learning requirements through observation and discussion. Observations of the children help staff to make judgments about the areas of development for each child.
Staff at Coombe Valley Nursery have systems for recording the progress of children in form of a online learning journal called Tapestry. Staff are always happy to discuss the records with parents at any time. Evidence is collected in the form of photos, discussions, observations or products the children have created and a portfolio is created online. You will be given access to this when your child starts at Coombe Valley.
